Emily treats individuals who are healing from the effects of burnout, trauma and stress.

Stress can affect our body in many ways. At the root of each physical and emotional symptom is a message alerting us to something that needs tending.

Through gentle acupuncture, bodywork, and emotional healing via trauma-informed Five Element theory, Emily helps people move through experiences of pain and stagnation.

Emily is a trained classical Eastern herbalist, and will prescribe custom herbal formulas from golden cabinet herbs when necessary and appropriate.

What if i'm new to acupuncture?

You're welcome here! I love working with people who are new to acupuncture as well as seasoned receivers of care. I am happy to talk to you about any concerns you may have and am comfortable adjusting my technique to meet any sensitivities.

What do you treat?

There is a saying that acupuncture cures nothing and treats everything. A cure based model often puts a patient at odds with their body. The goal becomes suppressing a symptom or enhancing a compensation so that the symptom can be ignored or bypassed. Acupuncture views all symptoms as messages, important communication from our body directing us to what needs tending. By listening to these messages we can create a sustainable response that not only alleviates the symptom, but also addresses the underlying need that ignited that symptom to begin with.
Anxiety, insomnia, feelings of depletion and depression, digestive upset, fatigue, irritability, aches and pains are all examples of messages alerting us to needs that are not being met.
I focus on tending to the symptoms that are brought on by trauma, stress and burnout as well as treating those who are dissatisfied with their emotional and physical wellbeing.
If you are unsure if we are a good fit, feel free to write me an email and I'd be happy to answer any questions you have.

Do i have to talk about my trauma?

You are welcome and encouraged to speak any experiences you've had or anything that comes up for you during treatment that you feel called to share, and also be assured that this work can be done without the need to talk about your history or the specifics of your lived experience. With acupuncture, we communicate with your body directly by listening to what is present in the moment and adjusting our response until you feel a deep sense of rest and ease.

Do I have to believe in acupuncture for it to work?

No :-)
Acupuncture is not a belief system, it is a thousands years old, scientifically studied and validated system of healing that works by attending to our bodies communication systems. These systems include your autonomic nervous system which regulates and controls our habituated responses to stress. When we attend to trauma and chronic stress with acupuncture we are attending to the patterning that we have taken on as a survival mechanism. As we unwind our habitual reactions and bracing we begin to open to the world, and to ourselves, in more sustainable and loving ways.

Covid-19 Protocols and protections

Masks are now optional in health care settings. I will be masking while at work to provide us both with protection and peace of mind, for the foreseeable future.  I encourage you to do whatever makes you feel the most at ease during your session so that you can focus on receiving care and attuning to your body.  If you have any COVID or COLD symptoms (cough, runny nose, sore throat etc), your appointment will be rescheduled without a missed appointment fee regardless of when you cancel. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns about receiving in-person care.
